Michigan State vs Kansas live

The day has finally come for Michigan State basketball’s offseason hard work to start paying big dividends. Not many are giving the Spartans much of a chance on Sunday evening against top-seeded Kansas, but the Jayhawks have proven all year long during Big 12 play that they are beatable. For this young Michigan State team, though, it will take a herculean effort to upset the Jayhawks who are considered one of the favorites to win the entire tournament. If Michigan State can play like it did in the final 30 minutes against Miami in round one, this game could be extremely close.

Michigan State lost three of its last four games before the NCAA Tournament and was considered a bubble team. However, the Spartans were selected to the tournament for the 20th straight year under coach Tom Izzo. That’s the third-longest active streak in the nation, trailing only Kansas (28) and Duke (22). Under Izzo, Michigan State has a record of 21-4 in the second game of a NCAA Tournament weekend, including 7-3 as a lower seed.

Michigan State has a pair of players averaging double figures in scoring and both are freshmen. Bridges leads the Spartans in points (16.7) and rebounds (8.3) per game while Ward is second in both categories at 13.9 points and 6.6 boards. Eron Harris averaged 10.4 points per game but is out for the season with a knee injury.
